Online Open Evening 2020
Due to Level 2 restrictions - we are unable to hold our open evening at school as planned. So we will be holding an Online Open Evening.
You can also phone the office on 09 483 9168 and make a time to visit the school on Thursday's from now until the end of the term. One of our senior leadership team will be taking small groups of no more than 10 around to see our fabulous school in action and answer any questions you may have.
In the meantime See us in action!
We encourage you to enrol early, visit our school and meet our principal. After enrolment, you will receive a Welcome Pack with additional information about the first day, school donations, stationery, a uniform guide, bus timetables and class placements.
In zone families should complete an online enrolment application using the above form. You will be required to email evidence of your home address (eg. utility bill, tenancy agreement), along with the student’s identification documents. Please email these documents to email@example.com, or alternately you can bring these documents into the office and we can make a copy for our records.
An information video for prospective 2021 families will be available soon. Due to Covid-19 we have delayed our open evening and this will be held on Thursday the 20th of August at 6.30pm in the School Hall. Any enquiries please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
For information on enrolling an International Student, please contact our Deputy Principal, Katrina Bush, at email@example.com.
Out of Zone Enrolment
The Birkdale Intermediate School Board of Trustees will be adopting an enrolment scheme effective from 01/01/2021. This is in conjunction with the Ministry of Education under section 11H(1) of the Education Act 1989. Community consultation was sought in 2019 and the Board of Trustees are now ready to implement this enrolment scheme.
Out of zone enrolment applications for 2021 open on 20 July, and close on 31 August 2020. Places are allocated by a ballot held on 9th September 2020.
The map below shows our catchment (in zone) area. If you wish to query an address, please contact the office.
Amendment to School Enrolment Scheme - Community Consultation
Due to the fact that we are the only Intermediate on the Shore offering Māori Medium Education, we have applied to the Ministry of Education for Special Programme status. This would mean that students who live outside our zoned area who want to attend our school in order to access a reo rua education for their child can do so providing they meet the entry criteria outlined below.
Criteria for entry
The criteria for enrolment are
Students who are fluent speakers of Māori
Students who have attended a Māori bilingual or immersion primary school
Students who want to be in a Māori medium classroom AND have parental support to learn te reo
Priority for enrolment
The priority groups for enrolment in the programme are:
First Priority – Students who are fluent speakers of te reo
Second priority – Students who have attended a Māori bilingual or immersion programme at primary school
Third Priority – Students who have a sibling or whanau member who attended the school and was part of the Māori bilingual program
Fourth Priority – Students who have a parent who is a speaker of te reo Māori and can support a new learner
Fifth Priority – Students who have whanau who are actively willing to support a new learner in te reo Māori
If there are more applicants than places in a priority group, places will be allocated by ballot
Process for enrolment
Students will apply for a place on the programme and will be accepted based on the priority groups described above.
We are consulting with the community on this criteria and welcome your feedback - please email firstname.lastname@example.org before Friday 4 September if you have any comments or queries about this.
