Birkdale Intermediate School
A quality education in a caring environment
Level 2 Update - 23rd September 2020
Kia ora e te whanau,
After a few weeks of uncertainty around the alert levels that would be placed on Auckland, we now have confirmation that we are remaining at level 2. This is what it looks like for our school and how it will impact on your child.
The year 8 camp scheduled for week one of term 4 has been cancelled. The camp facility has numerous other groups and instructors at the camp. We feel that this cancellation is a huge disappointment to our students but one that is the best given our current circumstances. We are in the process of planning combined year 7 and 8 activities outside the classroom. We are hoping to confirm these plans before the holidays.
We will continue to keep gatherings of students to a minimum and limit these where possible. This means that our assemblies will be filmed each week. We have loved these assemblies and have seen students stepping into leadership roles to host, film and edit these weekly videos.
Drinking fountains will remain closed and students will be encouraged to bring their own drink bottles to school each day. Students will continue to take their own stationery between classes. We have limited a lot of the shared resources and, where possible, this will continue.
Students can choose to wear masks throughout the day. There is no stipulation that students must wear masks at school. School buses do not require masks to be worn.
We do have sign in and out procedures in places including the covid-19 QR code at the school reception. These will be visible to all and will be used for all visitors to the school. Please be aware that you will also need to sign into our visitors register as well for school records.
Our goal is to continue to be a place of health and wellbeing during this pandemic. We will continue to ask all whānau to keep students at home if they have any symptoms of covid-19 or are feeling unwell.
We hope that you feel confident that we are managing any potential risks and are working hard to ensure a safe environment for our learners. Please contact us immediately if you or your whānau contract the virus or are a close contact to someone with the virus.
